An evening with Oscar Arrivabene of Domenico Clerico

Join us on Wednesday 21 May as we welcome Oscar Arrivabene from the celebrated Barolo producer, Domenico Clerico.

Domenico Clerico started his eponymous label in the late 1970s when he took over his father’s small vineyard in Monforte d’Alba. Along with winemakers Elio Grasso and Aldo Conterno, he was instrumental in starting a ‘modernist’ movement that strayed from traditional winemaking in the region, instead championing the use of small-format French oak and single-vineyard expressions.

Dubbed the ‘Barolo Boys’, the three producers helped put Barolo, and in particular Monforte d’Alba, on the world stage. Clerico passed in 2017, but his legacy lives on through the stewardship of his wife Giuliana, and winemaker Oscar Arrivabene. Oscar has continued the evolution of Domenico's vision of site-specific Barolo. A focus on organic practices in the vineyard and a movement away from barrique ageing ensures that these wines are more expressive of place than ever before, whilst retaining the power and presence of Monforte.

Oscar spent years working in Tuscany, Valtellina and Australia before starting at Domenico nearly 20 years ago. His passion for innovation and upholding the movement that Clerico started is evident, and we are delighted to welcome him to Cutler this May.
